Unlike dust, dirt or mud components like bird droppings and bug remains are dangerous to the surface of your car. They contain organic acids which pierce the clear coat of your car and make it vulnerable to discoloration and deterioration. This is why it important that you wash your car weekly provided you do it in a proper way because improper techniques may cause unappealing scratches. Here are some points to remember while washing your car:
- Use washing tools such as car washing mitt made of natural fibers that are soft yet efficiently get rid of contamination. Micro-chenille or sheep skin washing mitts trap the dirt within the fibers and don’t let the sand rub against your car’s paint.
- Always wash your car where there is shade. Washing it under direct sunlight will get water spots as the car cleaner and water both dry up quickly.
- Begin washing the car from the wheels and tyres. Use a wheel safe cleaner that does not have harsh chemicals. Water-based cleaners are perfect and it will not corrode the rubber and wheels. You can use a wheel brush to remove the dirt and dust particles caught in between.
- A car wash with lubricants is what will lubricate the particles and contaminants on your car and remove them without scratching the paint. Don’t use common clothes or dishwashing detergents or liquids to clean your car. They are not meant for the paint on your car.
- Use a grit guard and a washboard in your bucket to rub your washing mitt against it and then let see the particles settle below the bucket. This way each time to clean your mitt you know you are taking clean shampoo and water to rub your car.
- Always clean the upper portion of your car first. The lower portion is the dirtiest because it is exposed to the dust and dirt of the roads more compared to the upper portion. Once you clean the windows and the upper part of the car take on the lower panels.
- Lubricate sticky contaminants such as tar or bugs with soapy water and then gently rub it using a sponge.
- Once you finish washing always dry the car. The process is important and saves your car from water spots. Use a good quality water blade to remove excess water fast before it dries. Remember to check its authenticity – it should be paint safe.
- Use microfiber towels to clear water drips and moisture from the glass and the car body. They are lint free and dry water faster than chamois or terry cloth. Use a different towel to dry the wheels and the tyres.
- Don’t forget to wipe the trunk after the exterior of the car is dry.
